TiaGard® 12.5% is a liquid concentrate containing 12.5% tiamulin hydrogen fumarate for use in medicated drinking water for swine. It is indicated for the treatment of swine dysentery associated with Brachyspira hyodysenteriae susceptible to tiamulin and swine pneumonia due to Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae susceptible to tiamulin. Treatment is administered through drinking water for five consecutive days.
Tiamulin is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and can be detected in the blood within 30 minutes after dosing. TiaGard 12.5% provides a convenient way to administer treatment through drinking water, with the medicated water serving as the only source of drinking water during the five-day treatment period.
12.5% tiamulin hydrogen fumarate
Carefully measure the required amount of TiaGard 12.5% Liquid Concentrate, add it to the appropriate amount of water, and mix thoroughly. Prepare fresh medicated drinking water daily throughout the five-day treatment period. Medicated water should be the only source of drinking water during treatment. The concentration must be adjusted as needed to account for variations in water consumption due to pig size, environmental temperature, and other factors.
For complete proportioner and stock-solution preparation instructions, follow the product label.
Withdraw medicated water 3 days before slaughter following treatment at 3.5 mg/lb and 7 days before slaughter following treatment at 10.5 mg/lb.
Swine treated with TiaGard 12.5% must not have access to feeds containing polyether ionophores such as monensin, lasalocid, narasin, salinomycin, or semduramicin, as adverse reactions may occur.
For use in the drinking water of swine only. Not for use in humans. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with skin. Direct contact with skin or mucous membranes may cause irritation. The effects of tiamulin on swine reproductive performance, pregnancy, and lactation have not been determined. Overdosing may cause temporary salivation, vomiting, or an apparent calming effect. If signs of toxicity occur, discontinue medicated water and provide clean, fresh water. Refer to the package insert for complete safety information.
