Zygolide® (pergolide tablets) is a prescription oral medication indicated for the control of clinical signs associated with Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID), commonly known as Equine Cushing’s Disease. PPID is one of the most common endocrine disorders in horses, and pergolide is the most proven and widely accepted treatment for managing this condition and improving long-term quality of life.

Zygolide® is the first FDA-approved generic pergolide formulated specifically for equine use. Each peppermint-flavored tablet contains 1 mg of pergolide mesylate and is scored to allow precise, flexible dose adjustments under veterinary supervision. Once-daily oral administration makes Zygolide® a practical and effective option for ongoing PPID management.

Directions:

Administer orally once daily as directed by a veterinarian. The recommended starting dose is 2 mcg/kg once daily. Dosage may be adjusted to effect under veterinary supervision and should not exceed 4 mcg/kg daily. Tablets are scored, and the calculated dose should be rounded to the nearest one-half tablet.

Store at or below 25°C (77°F), with excursions permitted up to 40°C (104°F).

Warnings & Precautions:

For use in horses only. Do not use in horses intended for human consumption. Do not crush tablets due to the potential for increased human exposure. When splitting tablets, minimize direct handling. Pregnant or lactating women should wear gloves when administering this product.

Treatment with Zygolide® may cause decreased appetite, weight loss, lethargy, or behavioral changes. Most reactions are mild; however, severe effects may require temporary dose reduction. The safety of Zygolide® has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating horses, and its pharmacologic activity may interfere with reproductive function. Zygolide® is contraindicated in horses with known hypersensitivity to pergolide mesylate or other ergot derivatives.
