A martingale collar is a designed to provide more control over your
dog without the choking that occur with a traditional slip collar. They
are especially effective for dogs whose necks are bigger than their heads,
such as Greyhounds and Whippet. Because they are safer for your dog than
slip collars, many breeders, vets and trainers recommend them.
The martingale collar has two loops. The large loop is placed around the
dogs neck and adjusted to fit comfortably. When correctly fitted, the
collar will be comfortably loose when not in use. To use with a leash,
simply clip the leash to the D ring on the small loop. If your dog tries
to pull its head out of the collar only the smaller loop will tighten
causing the collar to pull snug on the dog’s neck without choking.
When you release the tension on the leash, the collar relaxes.
